OUR GRASS
TAHOMA 31
Key Characteristics
• Cold Hardiness: Significantly more winter-hardy than other bermudas and greening up earlier in spring.
• Drought & Water Efficiency: Uses significantly less water (up to 50% less) than traditional varieties, making it very drought-tolerant.
• Shade Tolerance: Ranks highly for tolerating shade (up to 60%) compared to other bermudas, needing some sun but performing well in partially shaded spots. Does well in full sun.
• Texture & Appearance: Fine-textured, dense, and deep green, offering a soft feel underfoot.
• Aggressive Growth: Spreads quickly (stolons) and fills in bare spots rapidly, recovering well from traffic and wear.
• Low Maintenance: Requires less fertilizer and mowing compared to many other turf types, though it benefits from proper feeding.
Best Uses
• Home lawns needing durability and beauty.
• Golf courses (fairways, greens, tee boxes).
• Athletic fields and high-traffic areas.
• Areas with challenging conditions like partial shade or drought.

New Sod Care
How do I prep my area for sod?
Start by clearing the area of weeds, rocks, and old grass, then loosen and level the top few inches of soil so the sod can make good contact with the ground. It also helps to add a little quality topsoil if needed and lightly water the area before installation so the soil is moist, but not muddy.
How soon should sod be installed after delivery?
Sod should be installed the same day it is delivered whenever possible. Because it is a living plant, it can heat up and dry out quickly on a pallet, so laying it promptly and watering immediately helps roots establish successfully.
How much should I water new sod?
New sod needs frequent, light watering at first to keep the soil consistently moist, typically 2–3 times per day for the first 7–10 days depending on weather. After the roots begin to take hold, you can gradually reduce frequency and transition to deeper, less frequent watering.
